Conceptual Designs is my ongoing set of self-initiated explorations. These are the projects I make for myself, to try an idea, stretch my visual craft, or explore an interaction I have not been able to use in client work yet.

The Problem

What wasn't working

Client work has real constraints, and rightly so. But without a space to experiment, a designer's craft goes stale.

Goals

What success looked like

  • Keep pushing visual and interaction craft.
  • Explore ideas that client work does not have room for.
  • Build a personal library of directions I can pull from later.
Research

What I learned first

  • Collected inspiration and questions from products I admire.
  • Used each concept to answer a specific 'what if'.
Challenges

The hard parts

  • Knowing when a concept has taught me what it needed to.
  • Balancing polish with the freedom to experiment.
Design Process

How I worked through it

  1. 01

    Explore

Start from a question or an idea worth chasing.

  2. 02

    Craft

Push the visual and interaction detail past what a deadline usually allows.

  3. 03

    Keep

Save what works into a personal library of directions.

Wireframes

Structure before surface

Most concepts skip straight to high fidelity, since exploring the look is often the whole point.

User Flow

The path a user takes

  1. 1Start with a 'what if'
  2. 2Explore the idea in high fidelity
  3. 3Push the craft
  4. 4Keep the parts worth reusing
Final UI

Where it landed

A growing collection of polished concept work that keeps my craft sharp and my ideas fresh.

Lessons Learned

What I took away

  • Personal projects are where craft actually grows.
  • Not every design has to ship to be worth making.
Reflection

These concepts are where I stay curious. They remind me why I started designing in the first place.
